Our Favorite Summer Projects: Den/Living Room Improvements

Jun 22, 2012

Summer is the time for making everything better at the home. It’s the perfect time to remodel a room, repaint and leave the windows wide open. This summer we plan to go over simple renovations and improvements for every room of the house, how to get the right cables for the job and make a quick fix when necessary. This week we’re focusing on the home office area.

TriangleCables - organized computer room.jpgRedoing the Computer Room

Tired of staring at a screen all day? Brighten the room with a lighter color carpet and walls, so things aren’t so gloomy. Rearrange the room so when sitting at a computer, you face a window. This way you still have a connection to the outdoors.

Get organized. It doesn’t cost a lot to go through the old filing and storage cabinets and make space for what’s actually needed. Make sure that all of your labels are accurate and up to date. Don’t throw additional items into a drawer if they don’t belong there. Invest in new storage racks, such as

Set up the technology first aid kit. Running to the store for a new router or speakers is silly when you could get the right items from the start and quickly assess the situation and identify the problem. Make sure you have additional Ethernet cables on hand, cable tester to identify the problem and crimpers and tools to fix the problem.

Fix it Up: Dad’s Testers and Tools for Any Problem

Jun 14, 2012

Some Dad’s are the duck tape and super glue sort, where any and every problem can be solved with just a little sweat, grease and tape. It doesn’t matter what the problem is, a broken door, a leaky faucet, or even a loose thread. Other Dad’s appreciate using the right tools to solve every problem. Methodical, organized, he’ll fix the problem and do it right the first time so it won’t have to be ‘patched up’ every month or so with new tape.

For the Dad who is always on the ball, make sure his tool box is filled with all of the essentials this Sunday for Father’s Day, and every day you need to call on him.

Testers and Tools – Don’t risk electrical shock or unnecessary work when there are faulty or potentially bad wires at risk! The right testers will let him know exactly where the problem is.

Tool kits – Does Dad deserve a new toolkit or chest to hold all of his handy helpers in? A new chest will look great in the garage, and keep all the small bits nice and organized. Or maybe he needs a new complete service tool kit to do the job!

Power, & More Power – Dad should have the power to do whatever he needs and wants. Power extension cords are one of the most handy things you could ever give Dad. More power is better!

College Graduation Gifts and Tips: from HMDI Cables to Tape!

May 18, 2012

It’s not just high school grads who need a gift bag when they move up and onwards! College graduates often move into their first apartment or first not-so great apartment once they leave the nest and start to live a life in the real world. Lend a helping hand by preparing these graduates with the tools they need to survive in the real world.

hdmi cablesHere are few things to put on your college graduate  gift shopping list:

Protective pieces. Keystone inserts for those shady rooms with exposed wall plate units. There’s nothing more dangerous than exposed wiring or holes, so make sure that your graduate is safe with covered jacks.

The perfect entertainment system. Was a new flat screen TV and BluRay player on the graduate gift list? Remember to get them all the necessary mounting equipment and cables to connect it all. HDMI cables are always a must for the newest media systems!

Tape, tape, lots of tape. Electrical tape, duck tape, masking tape, they’re all essentials at some point. Buy yourself packing tape so you can send lots of care packages their way!

Tiny toolkits. While toolboxes are typically a ‘new couple,’ ‘new house,’ or wedding present, a smaller starter toolkit will go a long way for a new apartment. Screws, hammers, tape measure, and any other basics can help add comfort to the new place.

Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3 Testing, Can you Hear Me?

Apr 6, 2012

XLR adapters and cables

“Say anything”

“Test, 1, 2, 3.”

“…Anything but that.”

Even if you’re not a fan of musicals, you’ll have to agree that the musical Rent said it best. Nobody checking the audio levels wants to hear those same words over and over, over and over again. Anything but would be There are even the people who then start to get a bit goofy, singing and yelling that same phrase, ‘test one, two, three.” The worst thing is, you’re busying hooking up the XLR adapters and adjusting the levels, and need them to continue speaking to get levels perfect.

Want to eliminate the problem before it starts?

Have a few prepared phrases. Just like you want to be prepared for any audio or video situation, you also want to be ready with all the video component cables, audio adapters, and any other adapter you might need for the situation. Here’s a few phrases to try asking people to say:

For music, “Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are..”

For interviews, “My name is Triangle Cables. T-R-I-A-N-G-L-E C-A-B-L-E-S.”

For everything else, just start listing what you had for lunch, “For breakfast it was coffee and jam on toast, then for lunch, let’s see….”

Don’t be stuck hearing the Verizon commercial phrase, “Can you hear me now? Good. Can you hear me now? Good.” Make all of your audio checks painless from feedback and annoying phrases.

Stressed? Stop the Cable Tension with Port Savers: Our Smart Solution of February

Feb 17, 2012

HDMI port saversWork is stressful enough so why add tension to your business situation with bent, twisted, and kinked cables. The more your business grows, the more you’ll need to have connected. Whether this means bringing internet connectivity to your flat panel monitors, syncing your computer and video displays or just adding additional USB ports to your towers, you’ll need to make smart cable decisions.

Our Smart Solution of the Month?
Port savers! Using port savers will make your cables easier to handle, set up and reduce the additional tension that makes signals loose strength faster.

  • Here’s a few port saving solutions for your business, or even office set up!
  • HDMI port savers are a must for flat panel displays. The whole point of your flat panel is to have it mounted as close to the wall as possible, leaving little room for cables. Swivel port, 90 degree and 270 degree port savers
  • Older panel displays or computer monitors will need a DVI port saver to create a snug fit that allows for different DVI connections, without lengthy cords.
  • USB ports can be few and far to reach. USB port savers make it easy to adapt to different types of USB pin cables, as well as provide that angle to make plugging into a hidden USB panel much easier.

What other smart solutions can you think of? We’ll have more for you every month here at

A Valentine’s Wish: 5 Reasons We Love Component Video Cables

Feb 10, 2012

Won’t you be mine, component video cables? February is the month of love. Here’s five reasons we’re declaring our love for component video cables.component video cables

  1. Affordable and easy to upgrade. We’re not saying that these cables are like a cheap date, they’re just not high maintenance. Which we’re very thankful for on holidays like Valentine’s Day when we want them to work just right! Even when one wears down, it’s not a hassle to find a new cable, at an affordable price.
  2. Easy to match. Color coding is perhaps the sweetest thing about component video cables. When you’re working with various black cables with slightly different heads and pins, you’re going to welcome the easy color to color match for your component video cables.
  3. No tools needed. Have you ever gotten halfway through mounting or installing new hardware, only to realize that you’ve forgotten an essential tool? The only thing that can possibly measure up to the sickening disappointment is…
  4. Realizing the piece doesn’t fit. The tool is wrong, the screw’s the wrong size or the placement has been misjudged. Now you’ve either got to take apart all of that work or be stuck with a halfway finished project.
  5. Triangle Cables has them all. You might call us the experienced component video cable company, and we’re not ashamed. We know our cables well, which means we offer cable splitters, wall plates, adapters, and more!

Are you a Video, Audio & Computer Cable Hoarder? A 4 Question Quiz

Jan 20, 2012

They’re out there, lurking, sneaking and sulking about.

No, it’s not a TV reality show, but a condition. It’s not serious, but it will affect your television and music habits.

computer cablesDo you live with a cable hoarder or are you one?

We’ve crafted together this easy question and answer to determine if you are in fact a cable hoarder.

Q 1 – Are there audio cables running from your television or media boxes that aren’t actually connected to anything?
Q2 – Is there a box filled with cables you don’t ever use anymore, but think “I might need this someday?”
Q3 – Are you still holding onto cables that you don’t even know what they are, never mind what they were ever used for?
Q4 – Are you ‘Mcgyver’ing adapters, cables, tape and maybe a paper clip or two to have your network or entertainment system up and running?

If you said yes to most of these questions, then you are, very likely a cable hoarder. If you passed, and are not a hoarder, test the other people in your house. Someone else may very likely be a cable hoarder, in which case you can refer them to the care and concern of We have the cables to solve you cable issues, with the right sizes cables for your situation or adapter to create a safe and functional connection.
